Please note: Open ‘in school’ courses are those that are hosted by a school but are open to everyone. If the school has had whole school P4C training the cost for participants would be £200. Please send an email to enquiries@sapere.org.uk after booking, quoting the course ID code, and we will amend the fee accordingly.

Completion of the course and facilitating 6 P4C sessions will qualify you for a P4C Initial Practitioner certificate.

Start practising P4C straight away:

  • Encourage philosophical questioning and dialogue
  • Learn how to facilitate a P4C enquiry
  • Identify resources to stimulate rich discussions with young people

The two-day course:

  • Introduces the theory and practice of P4C
  • Provides tools to develop students’ questioning and thinking skills
  • Connects P4C to the curriculum
  • Demonstrates philosophical enquiry in practice
  • Presents P4C resources and sources of teaching materials

Sue Lyle - Trainer Profile

Sue has been a teacher and teacher educator for 40 years and first trained in P4C in 1996. She has been a trainer since 2003 and has led an extensive programme of P4C in Swansea and South Wales where over 2000 teachers have completed Level 1 training including 63 whole school programmes. Sue is also a Level 2 trainer and over 80 teachers have completed Level 2 on independent courses.

A DVD, ‘Journey into Children’s Minds’ tells the story of P4C in Swansea and is available to buy from Imaginative Minds. Formerly Head of Continuing Professional Development at Swansea Metropolitan University, Sue now leads her own company, Dialogue Exchange to promote dialogic approaches to learning and teaching in schools. She works regularly in schools with children to practice P4C and is working with several schools towards a Bronze award. One school has achieved the award so far.

Specialist areas: Foundation Stage and Key Stage One. Linking P4C with The Storytelling Curriculum to promote literacy in schools. Contributing to research publications on the impact of P4C. Presenting at international conferences.
