Mathematics and Philosophy for Children (P4C)
Developing deep learning in Mathematics through collaborative enquiry and P4C practice.
A one-day workshop for primary and secondary teachers with an interest in both mathematics and P4C.

Aims for the course:
- To raise awareness of the potential contribution of Communities of philosophical enquiry and philosophical moves in general to the learning and teaching of mathematics.
- To provide practical examples of good strategies for teaching mathematics based on dialogue, concept attainment and drawing on strategies to develop a growth mindset in maths (examples will be given across the age range).
- To provide links to available resources for further development of the above.
Dr Rod Cunningham – Trainer Profile
Rod has worked as a mathematics educator for over 30 years. He has been facilitating P4C since 2006 in primary, secondary and teacher education settings and supports schools in the Going for Gold programme. He co-authored the chapter on maths and P4C in ‘Philosophy for Children Across the Secondary Curriculum’. He has also utilised a range of facilitation models with community groups (Transition Town Abergavenny among others) working on sustainability and community cohesion issues.
