Braunstone Project Leicester
The Philosophy for Children project was devised and funded by the People and Health Department of the Braunstone Community Association. The Association had been set up with New Deal money, with the overall brief of supporting community initiatives that would benefit the residents of Braunstone in the Western part of Leicester.
The Philosophy for Children project was an educational initiative, taking place in two primary schools, in lesson time. Its main explicit purpose was to raise the oracy levels - especially the speaking and listening skills - of children, many of whom are seen as disadvantaged, and to begin training and support for their teachers in conducting philosophical enquiry in their classrooms.
