Biography

Having taught in Primary, Middle and High schools, James Nottingham began a project in Berwick upon Tweed in 1999 to raise the self esteem and achievement of young people in the town. From humble beginnings the N-RAIS project grew into a regional, multi-million pound project with a team of 10 consultants and in excess of 3000 clients in schools, public organisations and businesses.

A key part of the work was developing thinking skills, leadership capacity and philosophical enquiry within schools, charities and businesses.

In 2005 James accepted an award on behalf of the project in recognition of the outstanding contribution it had made to raising young people’s aspirations in the North East.

James now takes an advisory role to the project whilst he focuses on other initiatives, including the international network of Community Designed Schools – a radical scheme already successful in 5 countries that encourages communities to create the school of their dreams.
