Biography

Amsterdam-born, Prof Dr Karin Saskia Murris lives in West Wales and is Visiting Professor in Practical Philosophy and Ethics at the School of Education, Newport. She is also director of the consultancy and publishing company Dialogue Works http://wwwwww.dialogueworks.co.uk.

Trained as a youth-librarian and philosopher, she has been teaching thinking- skills and ‘philosophy for children’ (P4C) to teachers, children, and teacher educators for 17 years. Karin is a national and international P4C pioneer in the use of picturebooks. Karin has trained under Professor Matthew Lipman in the USA and educated many UK P4C trainers since. She is also an accredited socratic dialogue facilitator, philosophical counselor and is currently introducing, in collaboration with Joanna Haynes, Dilemma Training - a method of ethical decision making - in primary, secondary schools, detached youth work and higher education after working with the method in business and public service contexts.

Karin is the author of Metaphors of the Child’s Mind, Storywise: Thinking through Stories, Philosophy with Picture Books, and over 30 articles. She lectures worldwide and her work has been featured in the national and international media, including The Telegraaf, The Guardian, Times Educational Supplement, The Independent, The Times, Times Higher Educational Supplement and The Financial Times, as well as Channel Four television’s Class Action, Lichtpunt (Belgian television) and BBC Radio Four.
